Squash is an excellent source of vitamin C and dietary fiber. Yellow squash, also known as Straightneck squash, is a type of summer squash and hails from the same family that includes zucchini and pumpkin. Yellow squash is a versatile fruit which can be cooked in a variety of ways. Its skin is sweet in taste and can be left on the fruit for various recipes. Although yellow summer squash can be prepared in a variety of ways like fried, baked, microwaved, or steamed, boiling is the best and easiest one. Gather Required items:

Choose a fresh yellow summer squash that is small and firm with tender skin free of blemishes and bruising. It won’t be good if it is not fresh. You will need a sharp knife, spatula, saucepan, chopping board, and a strainer.

Once you have gathered all the items, wash and clean each piece of squash. Cut the tips off from each piece and throw them away. Check for any bruises, patches, or blemishes and remove them. Chop them into wheels or cubes in whatever size you like. But not too thin, preferably.

How To Boil Squash:

Put all squash pieces in the pan. Add water just enough to cover the squash and bring to boil on medium heat. If you want to boil the whole squash, add an inch of more water and bring it to boil on medium heat. Check frequently and let it boil until squash pieces get the desired softness. Strain out excess water and place the squash in a bowl. Remove as much water as possible using paper towels.

Boiled squash can be used many ways. You can add seasonings like salt, onion, pepper, or garlic prior to boiling squash. You can make yellow squash recipe. Place the mashed squash, onion, butter, milk, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix well and cook for few minutes on medium heat. Serve warm.

You can also choose to replace water with vegetable or chicken broth and add seasonings you like.
